Cupertino, CA, Nov 14, 2009 — Association of IT Professionals of Indian Origin – ITPIO – today held a combination event on the current job market and the current immigration policies at the HP Oakroom in Cupertino, CA. With jobs and immigration issues foremost on the minds of the Global Indian IT professionals, over 100 participants gained insights from the distinguished speakers.
Sanjiv Goyal, CEO of Droisys, a business solutions company presented “Marketing Yourself” – an in-depth analysis of how to stand out competitively during the current economic downturn.
Mr. Goyal provided a methodical, step-by-step plan for IT professionals in transition beginning with effective resume-building, delivering a differentiated message, creating a target list of companies, networking to reach the target companies, interviewing techniques and logging every interaction so as to make it a closed-loop learning process. Encouraging professionals in transition to stay positive, Mr. Goyal said, “A few years ago, I went through a difficult phase in my business; however, by staying positive and networking consistently, I am now living my dream leading a very successful IT solutions company.”
Attorneys Ms. Inderpreet Sawhney and Ms. Kalpana Peddibhotla engaged the participants into current Immigration practices by analyzing a very complicated scenario involving an IT professional who may have entered the USA with an L-1 visa, filed for H-1, had several inter-company transfers, had several location transfers, filed for EB-3, then I-140 and more. Both experts also emphasized the differences between “Unlawful Presence and Out-of-Status” and answered many in-depth questions during their highly interactive discussion.
Samson Koletkar, the stand-up comedian known as the “Indian Seinfeld” entertained the participants with his excellent wit and keen observations of first-generation as well as American-born of Indian origin.
“I really liked the Jobs and Immigration discussions. They were extremely practical and useful,” said Anand Kumar, a participant at the ITPIO. Namita Walawalkar, another participant added, “We have an acute need for professional development related support within the Global Indian IT professional. ITPIO has created a very effective platform not only in the Silicon Valley but across the world and I would like to volunteer to help the organization grow further.”
